School Transfer Process
Are you requesting a school other than your assigned school, or do you live outside the Loomis Union School District boundaries?
Find the process that applies to your student below.
Intradistrict Transfers
Students who legally reside within the Loomis Union School District boundaries may apply to attend a District school other than their assigned home school. The Superintendent or designee determines the capacity of each District school.
Open Enrollment
January 2–31, 2027
If you reside within the Loomis Union School District attendance boundary and would like your child to attend a District school other than their assigned home school, you may request an intradistrict transfer during the District’s Open Enrollment period.
Intradistrict transfer requests are subject to space availability at the requested school and District enrollment and placement procedures.
Please Note:
- Intradistrict transfer requests must be submitted to the District Office during Open Enrollment.
- Intradistrict transfers are not currently available for Transitional Kindergarten (TK).
- The District does not provide transportation for students attending a school through an intradistrict or interdistrict transfer.
- Students attending a Loomis District school on an intradistrict transfer are not required to renew the intradistrict application annually.
How to Apply
1. Complete the Intradistrict Attendance Agreement
Complete and submit the Intradistrict Attendance Agreement during the Open Enrollment period.
2. Complete Online Registration
If your student is not currently enrolled in LUSD, complete the online registration for the appropriate grade level and school year.
Currently enrolled LUSD students do not need to complete a new online registration.
3. Submit Required Documentation
Submit the Intradistrict Attendance Agreement along with the appropriate registration packet and any required supporting documentation.
4. Await Placement Notification
Requests will be reviewed according to District enrollment and placement procedures and available space at the requested school.
The District Office will notify applicants whether their application has been approved or denied. If an application is denied, the reason for the denial will be provided.
Applications Submitted After Open Enrollment
Applications received after the January 2–31 Open Enrollment period will be processed on a first-come, first-served basis, subject to space availability and District procedures.
Applications received during summer recess may be delayed two to four weeks, and notification may not be provided until after the start of the school year.
Applications submitted after the start of the school year for the current school year will not be processed unless they meet the criteria outlined in the District’s Board policy regarding transfers.
Families are encouraged to submit intradistrict transfer requests during the Open Enrollment period.
Special Circumstances
A student may be given priority for attendance outside their current attendance area when special circumstances exist that may be harmful or dangerous to that particular student. Harmful or dangerous special circumstances shall be identified pursuant to law and administrative regulations.
Once enrolled for a special circumstance, a student shall not have to apply for readmission. However, the student may be subject to displacement due to excessive resident student enrollment during the following school year.
Current Interdistrict Transfer Students
Students who are currently attending LUSD through an interdistrict transfer must renew their transfer annually to maintain enrollment.
Renewal requests must be submitted by May 1. Students who do not submit a renewal request by the deadline will be disenrolled for the following school year.
An approved interdistrict transfer is valid for one school year and expires at the end of that school year. Transfer requests must be renewed annually.
Students who reside outside the Loomis Union School District boundaries may apply to attend an LUSD school through the interdistrict transfer process.
An interdistrict transfer allows a student to attend a school outside their district of residence. Approval is subject to District enrollment and placement procedures, eligibility requirements, and space availability.
How to Apply
1. Obtain a Release from Your District of Residence
Contact your district of residence and request a signed Interdistrict Transfer Release Form.

2. Complete LUSD Online Registration
Complete the LUSD online registration for the grade level your student will enter.
3. Submit Required Documents
Submit the following to the LUSD District Office for processing:
- Signed Interdistrict Transfer Release Form
- LUSD Online Registration
Enrollment & Placement
Students applying for an interdistrict transfer must meet LUSD eligibility requirements. Applications for the following school year are considered in accordance with the District's open enrollment and student placement policies.
Placement in the requested school is not guaranteed and is subject to space availability and District placement procedures. Applications received after the open enrollment period will be considered based on applicable District procedures and available space.
An interdistrict transfer permit will not be revoked solely because of increased enrollment during the school year once the District has committed to the student's placement for that school year.
Important Dates
2026–27 School Year
New interdistrict transfer applications will not be accepted after November 20, 2026.
2027–28 School Year — Open Enrollment
January 2–31, 2027
Applications submitted during Open Enrollment will be reviewed in accordance with District enrollment and placement procedures and are subject to space availability.
After January 31, 2027:
Applications may be accepted and processed on a first-come, first-served basis, subject to available space and District procedures.
Important Transportation Information
An approved interdistrict transfer is valid for one school year only and must be renewed annually.
An interdistrict transfer permit may be revoked if a student becomes an attendance or disciplinary problem or otherwise fails to meet applicable District requirements. False information provided as a basis for obtaining an interdistrict transfer may invalidate the approval and require the student to return to their district of residence.
Parents/guardians are responsible for transportation to and from the school of attendance. LUSD does not provide transportation for students attending through an interdistrict transfer.

Transfers Out of LUSD
LUSD resident students who wish to attend a school in another district may apply for an interdistrict transfer out of LUSD.
Parents/guardians must complete the Request for Interdistrict Transfer form and provide the reason for the request. Requests are reviewed in accordance with District procedures and may be approved or denied by the Superintendent or designee.
If approved, the interdistrict transfer must be renewed annually.
