Concert Band North and South are Loomis Union School District's two most advanced and active Bands. All 7th and 8th grade students who would like to join and participate are welcome to do so and are automatically accepted into the ensemble. 6th grade students are accepted on a case-by-case basis to ensure that it is the correct placement for the student in their individual musical journey, both musically and socially. Please see below for some general details about the program and what participation could look like. We have an AMAZING year planned, and we hope to see your young musician there!!
Concert Band NORTH is comprised of students from Ophir STEAM Academy, Penryn Elementary, Loomis Grammar School, and H. Clarke Powers Elementary, and is led by Mr. Dillaway. Concert Band North meets each day we have school Penryn Elementary, and bussing is available to transport students from Penryn to Loomis Grammar and H. Clarke Powers after class.
Concert Band SOUTH is comprised of students from Placer Elementary and Franklin Elementary, and is led by Mr. Jacks. Concert Band South meets every day we have school at Placer, and bussing is available to transport students from Placer to Franklin after class.
Both Concert Bands start each day at 7:00am, and class continues until 8:00am.
Both ensembles are intentionally structured and run in a similar fashion, though the specific curriculum is custom tailored to each unique ensemble each year. We do several joint events, but also do events unique to each ensemble.
Each ensemble performs several times each year (see Calendars), but most events are optional and only the Winter and Spring formal Concerts are required.
The Concert Band program is ENTIRELY FREE, including bus transportation to alternate school sites. We do occasionally ask for voluntary donations at different points of the year, but no student is ever left behind for financial reasons.
The Concert Band program is designed to give LUSD students a traditional middle school music experience, with daily participation and practice. These ensembles have risen to an exceptional level of middle school performance, and we are continuing to see tremendous growth from year to year.
As well as being a fantastic musical experience, we also very much consider and embrace the social aspect of these ensembles. We work on team building, build personal connections, and often find new friends through the process. The music general does best when each member builds a sense of responsibility and pride in our community.
