About Us

  • LUSD Food Services sources and utilizes local and organic produce, and whole grain offerings, where possible.
  • Breakfast is served at the students first break/recess.
  • LUSD parents are encouraged to complete the Application for Meals to maximize state funding for LUSD schools. Only one application is necessary per household.

  • California continues to implement a statewide Universal Meals Program for public school children. California’s Universal Meals Program (Universal Meals) is designed to build on the foundations of the federal school meal programs. Therefore, meals will continue to be free of charge to all LUSD students. Please note that this includes one breakfast and one lunch per child each day.
  • All lunches (excluding minimum days) include a salad bar with seasonally available options such as: locally-grown fruit,vegetables, lettuce, carrots, cucumbers, tomatoes, broccoli, celery sticks, oranges, mandarins, strawberries and blueberries.

  • Our Food Service Department (FSD) serves all seven schools in the Loomis Union School District.

  • The goal of the LUSD FSD is to provide high quality, attractive, nutritious meals to all students within the program. Approximately 1,800 lunches are served each day to students in our program. 

  • LUSD Food Service Department employs 13 people and is always happy to have a reliable support staff of substitute employees.If interested in being on the sub list please contact LUSD 916-652-1800.

  • LUSD FSD is a fiscally sound program within the LUSD District. It operates on a $550,000 budget and is expected to maintain a positive fund balance and to contribute to the general fund to recover indirect costs such as utilities and support staff, along with other expenses incurred in the maintenance of the program and its equipment. Federal and state regulations include strict record keeping and accountability requirements in order to receive reimbursement for meals served. LUSD FSD consistently looks for innovative ways to increase cost effectiveness and to optimize purchasing power.

  • Research has shown that there is a crucial relationship between nutrition and health, as well as between nutrition and learning. LUSD FSD participates in the USDA’s National School Lunch, Summer Food Service and Commodity Distribution Programs. USDA regulations guide our programs. Monthly menus are planned to meet the USDA specifications based on the Dietary Guideline for Americans. Meals are to be low in fat, sodium and sugar, but provide sufficient calories to meet needs of growing children.

  • The Food Service Department arranges deliveries to each school site weekly where the meals are prepared and served daily. All sites are staffed with ServSafe certified employees. We always welcome the thoughts and ideas from parents within our District.
